Now that you have the project running, it’s helpful to tour some elements of the project. Nice! You’ve just run your first iOS app from Kotlin, without any Objective-C or Swift source code in this project. When the download is done and the build completes, Xcode will start the simulator and you will be greeted by a basic Hello screen. Subsequent builds of the app will be much faster. Depending on your network speed, this can take 5-20 minutes or so. Since this is the first time running the app, the Kotlin/Native compiler, which is named Konan, will download itself. Once you’ve downloaded the materials, open the starter project in Xcode by double-clicking on the MeteoriteFinder.xcodeproj file, and then run the app by clicking on the triangle button, shown below: The available versions may be higher by the time you read this tutorial.Īs a first step, download the materials for this tutorial by clicking the Download materials button at the top or bottom of the page. Prerequisites: This tutorial utilizes Kotlin/Native 0.9.3, Kotlin 1.3.0, Xcode 10.0 (CLI) and iOS 12.0. We’ll keep the references to iOS classes and frameworks light in this tutorial, giving you just a taste of the possibilities without overwhelming you if you’ve never developed for iOS. The entire app will focus on using Kotlin/Native. In this tutorial, you will build a map-based iOS app that displays where meteorites have fallen to earth. This means that Kotlin developers can transfer their development skills over to creating iOS apps (assuming you have a spare macOS device lying around). Kotlin/Native comes with a friendly API for the iOS platform, giving developers the ability to call pretty much all of the Cocoa Touch frameworks. Kotlin/Native for C and iOS Development. But Java developers are not the only ones who can benefit from the language Kotlin has spread its tentacles outside the JVM with two other variations: Having roughly 100% interoperability with Java allows developers to work without giving up the rich ecosystem of libraries and tools. There should be opacity and feathering for strokes.Ī history of chosen colors at the top row of the swatches would be helpful, too.Kotlin has seen tremendous growth on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The ability to paste images would be nice. It shouldn’t be linear but rather slowly ramp the smaller diameters. The pencil thickness slider at the smaller end, it ramps down very quickly and I often have to try a few times to get the desired thickness. ![]() There are some things that would be nice: The functionality of having layers, quickly cloning boards, and giving run time to boards so they can play is truly useful.įor the price, I give this app 5-stars. ![]() This should be fixed to be enabled under an eraser sub-menu so they can function independent of each other. The straight line tool was hidden in the sub-pencil menu, and is incredibly useful, just keep in mind that turning it on breaks the eraser from functioning normally-it seems like nothing erases. This app is incredibly simple and useful, and I’m amazed how quickly my boards are coming together. I watched a few tutorials on how to draw figures and faces, and jumped in to using the Storyboard app. Changing to one star.Īfter seeing my friend’s iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in action, I decided to venture into using a dummy stylus to make storyboards with my iPad 2 mini. I emailed the developer but never heard from them. This is very inconvenient if you’re making any changes! One moment it’s there, you come out of the panel into the storyboard view and it’s gone. The most annoying bug is that sometimes everything you draw on one of the layers vanishes. 3.Duplicating a panel within the EDIT menu crashes and closes the program. Sometime it works, sometime it only duplicates couple of last strokes. Duplicating the panel within the workspace works sporadically. After trying everything I could I have found a workaround - turning off a watermark in settings fixed export issues. ![]() I have tried to export in any format that is available and none of them work. I have about 86 panels in my storyboard and every time I try to export it in any format the program crashes and closes. The most important - export doesn’t work. I have purchased full version of this software but there are few annoying bugs.
